UAB Synchro Squeaks By Florida For 95-91 Victory

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The UAB synchronized swimming team traveled to Florida on Saturday and came away with a 95-91 victory. UAB had numerous first place performances at the meet as the Blazers provided the top finisher in the solo, duet, team, "A" Figures and "B" Figures.
UAB junior Margareta Jakovac won the solo event with a score of 89.167 and teammate Talia Scatliff, a freshman, placed second with a score of 86.333.
In the duet routine, senior Frances Halloran and freshman Brittany McCauley took top honors with a score of 85.167.
Junior Meryl Grandia, freshman Shaina Boe and McCauley placed second in the trio event with a mark of 77.833, while freshmen Mikayla Cansler, Jami Schwendau and Michele Rushfeldt were honorary competitors in the event and posted a score of 80.0.
UAB won the team competition with a score of 86.583. Competing for the Blazers in the event were Boe, freshman Stephanie Cardwell, Halloran, Jakovac, McCauley and Rushfeldt.
In the "A" Figures, Jakovac earned top honors with a score of 83.5, while Halloran was second with a score of 82.762. Scatliff finished third with a score of 81.640.
McCauley won the "B" Figures with a score of 74.511, while Rushfeldt was second with a mark of 72.578.
The Blazers will now gear up for the South Collegiate Regionals in Fairfax, Va. next Saturday and Sunday.
