BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB signee Reggie Huffman continues to earn accolades for his 2005-06 campaign, as the 6-7, 220-pound forward was tabbed a National Junior College Association of America (NJCAA) second team All-American. Earlier this season, Huffman was also tabbed all-conference, all-region and the NJCAA Region 2 Most Valuable Player.
"This is just the reason why we are excited to have a player of Reggie's caliber join our program," UAB head coach Mike Davis said. "He is strong, athletic, quick and mature. He is going to step in and immediately help us next season. Reggie is going to be a great player."
Huffman, a native of Birmingham and a graduate of Huffman High School, played two years at Western Oklahoma Community College. Last season, Huffman averaged a double-double of 18.5 points and 11.3 boards a game, which led his team in both categories, while also ranking among the team leaders in field goal percentage (52.7 percent). Huffman closed the season as the 40th-ranked Junior College prospect in the country according to CSTV.com.
Huffman joins signees Keenan Ellis (Indianapolis, Ind./American Christian Academy), Aaron Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Hubbard) and Ed Berrios (Bronx, N.Y./Chipola CC) as part of this year's class. When mixing in transfers Robert Vaden (Indiana), Walter Sharpe (Mississippi State) and Channing Toney (Georgia), Davis can't help but to be excited about the state of UAB basketball and where it is headed.
"We want to develop and produce a championship program and I think with the new additions, and the players we have coming back, the future of UAB basketball is very bright," Davis said. "Our coaching staff has done a terrific job in bringing this type of talent to UAB, so I am very happy with our team at this point."
