BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's tennis team defeated Jacksonville State, 7-0, on Tuesday at Brook Highland Racquet Club. Senior Nischa Maier-Knapp did not lose a single game all day in singles nor doubles. UAB improves to 7-1 with the victory.
UAB won the doubles point with junior Gulsah Esen and senior Julia von Samson winning 8-4 at No. 1 and then at No. 2, Maier-Knapp and freshman Magdalena Czernik won 8-0. At flight three, juniors Antionia Nugent and Seden Soyalp earned an 8-4 victory.
Esen claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles, while Maier-Knapp cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the two spot. Von Samson ran her current win streak to seven matches with her 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 and Czernik won 6-4, 6-4 at flight four.
Soyalp was victorious at flight five, while Nugent won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
"Overall I thought this was a very solid match by everyone," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga, who is now just four wins away from his 200th career victory. "I am pleased with our doubles game as of late, including this match.
