UAB Synchro Finishes Second in Palo Alto

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team finished second in its tri-meet with defending national champion Stanford and Wheaton (Mass.) in Palo Alto, Calif. on Saturday. Junior Maria Cecilia Garcia highlighted the day for the Blazers as she finished second in the solo competition.
Stanford pulled away for the win with its score of 102.00 while UAB was in second at 81.00 and Wheaton in third at 72.
A solid team performance earned the Blazers a second place finish in the team event. Competing in the team event was sophomore Meryl Grandia, junior Frances Halloran, senior Sara Petrov, Garcia, senior Andrea Dash and senior Vanessa Dash.
The Blazers got a pair of third place finishes as Grandia, Halloran and Petrov were the bronze finishers in the trio event, while Grandia and Petrov came back and posted another third place finish in the duet competition.
UAB will wrap-up competition in Palo Alto on Sunday as they continue competition with Stanford.
