INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- UAB senior guard Squeaky Johnson has been selected to participate in the 2006 NABC College All-Star game Friday night at Conseco Fieldhouse as part of the Final Four festivities. It marks the second such selection for a UAB player.
"It's an honor to be selected as a member of the college all-star team," Johnson said. "Having only scored seven or eight points per game for my career, it goes to show you that you don't have to be a scorer to be recognized as one of the best players in the country. It also shows you that defense and leadership are also qualities that make players standout. I'm glad I've been selected, especially considering I did it a little different way than some other players."
Johnson and the college all-star team will take on the Harlem Globetrotters at 7 p.m. CT Friday night at Conseco Fieldhouse. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and can also be purchased the day of the event.
Johnson is a finalist for the 2006 Bob Cousy Award for the nation's top collegiate point guard. That award will be announced in Indianapolis on Monday.
The New Orleans, La., native joins Robert Shannon (1992-94) as Blazers appearing in the NABC All-Star contest.
