Women's Tennis Falls To East Carolina, 6-1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The UAB women's tennis team saw its' three-game win streak snapped as the Blazers fell to East Carolina, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Myrtle Beach City Tennis Complex. With the loss, UAB drops to 7-5 on the season and 0-1 in Conference USA action.
The Blazers had not played a match in over two weeks prior to Saturday's action, as UAB had its last two matches postponed due to weather.
East Carolina (15-6, 2-0) swept all three doubles matches and five of six singles contests for the win.
UAB's Ornischa Maier-Knapp tallied the lone victory for the Blazers, defeating Anca Dumitru, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 1 singles position.
In the No. 1 doubles tilt, Blazers Annemieke Elsholz and Julia von Samson fell, 8-4, to 48th-ranked Gillie Bailey and Kirstin Buchanan. At the No. 2 position, UAB's duo of Gulsah Esen and Maier-Knapp lost to Luiza Borges and Mireia Gol, 8-4. Blazers Antonia Nugent and Seden Soyalp were defeated by Dumitru and Presley Thomas, 8-3, in the No. 3 slot.
The Blazers dropped five singles matches. In the No. 2 match, von Samson fell, 6-4, 7-6, to Bailey. In the No. 3 spot, Elzholz lost to Gol, 6-0, 6-3, while Esen was defeated by Buchanan, 7-5, 6-2, in the No. 4 tilt. At the No. 5 position, Borges beat UAB's Nugent, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. Finally, the Blazers Samrin Tanzeem fell to Thomas, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 6 slot.
The Blazers face Memphis Sunday at 11 a.m. (ET).
