ATHENS, Ga. --- The UAB women's soccer team defeated the Georgia Bulldogs, 2-0 and dropped a close match with North Carolina, 3-0, Saturday in Athens, Ga. The Blazers continued spring action against two of the nation's top programs and made strides in developing a new system.
"Today was another great opportunity to play against two very well coached teams," said Paul Harbin. "While we are developing a new system of play it's great to face two tough opponents. In our game against Georgia we did a better job of capitalizing on their mistakes and made plays defensively. Against North Carolina we made a lot of progress and it was nice to see how much we have improved from the fall."
Against Georgia it was all UAB. The Blazers managed to score two goals and shutout the Bulldogs on their home field.
UAB matched up with UNC in the afternoon and played well. The Blazers held the Tar Heels to only one goal in the first half. UNC scored two in the second period including a goal on a counter attack with 30 second remaining in the match.
The Blazers will return to spring action on April 8 against LSU in Orange Beach, Ala. Complete coverage of UAB athletics can be found at www.uabsports.com.
