ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Brandon Tobias and Derrick Broom each came off the bench to score in the double-digits Saturday as UAB beat UCF, 73-68, in a Conference USA game.
Broom hit the Blazers' first three-pointer early in the second half and hit two more down the stretch to help UAB (16-4, 6-1) pull away.
UCF (9-10, 3-3) got within 66-62 with 1:25 remaining on a three-pointer by Mike O'Donnell, but never got any closer.
Tobias finished with 14 points and Broom had 13, while Lawrence Kinnard finished with 12 points for the Blazers and Marvett McDonald had 10.
Josh Peppers led UCF with 19 points. O'Donnell had 17 points and eight assists for the Knights, while Anthony Williams scored 14 points.
Despite a swarming, relentless UAB defense that forced UCF into 13 first-half turnovers, the Knights trailed just 36-35 at halftime.
