Synchronized Swimming Hits the Road to Face Stanford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team goes on the road for the first time in 2006, as they travel to Palo Alto for a meet with defending national champion Stanford. The Blazers look to continue their hot season start, as they come off an 88-41 win over Georgia last weekend.
The meet kicked off with the trio event where UAB's Frances Halloran, Megan Kelly and Hallie Todd took the top spot with a score of 82.000. Georgia's Kim Haga, Emily Merwin and Lauren Davey swam to a score of 60.833.
In the duet competition, Halloran and Todd combined to post a score of 85.833 to capture first place, while Morgan Clarke and Sara Petrov scored 85.333 to place second. Rebecca Johnson and Casey Lord complied a 78.167 score, good enough for third place.
In the solo event, UAB's Petrov took first place with a score of 86.333, edging out her teammate Maria Vargas, who compiled a score of 84.833.
The meet concluded with the team competition where the Blazers squad of Clarke, Andrea Dash, Vanessa Dash, Halloran, Petrov, Kelly, Todd, Vargas, Johnson and Lord took first place with a score of 87.333.
UAB faced Stanford on two ocassions last season, picking up two 2nd places finishes. UAB went on to record a fourth-place finish at the 29th Annual U.S. Synchronized Swimming Collegiate Championships held at the O'Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida. The Blazers tallied a final score of 63.
