Cardinals Come From Behind to Defeat Tulane

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Louisville Cardinals defeated the Tulane Green Wave on Friday night in the opening match of the 2005 Nike Classic, 2-1. Cardinal sophomore Liz Kinny led the way scoring two goals in the second half to help Louisville pull out the come from behind victory.
The match was scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play, but five minutes into the second half senior Jessica Mendez scored her first goal of the season to give Tulane their first and only lead of the match.
Louisville answered in the 66th minute when Kinny scored unassisted to tie the match at 1-1. In the 81st minute, Kinny struck again with the final goal of the match making it 2-1.
The Cardinals held on for the victory despite a strong performance by Tulane. Tulane will face Kennesaw State at noon on Sunday, while Louisville will play the host UAB at 2 p.m. All matches will be played at West Campus Field.
