BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's soccer team will host cross-town rival Birmingham-Southern Friday night at 7 at West Campus Field. Admission to the match will be free but disaster relief donations will be accepted.
"The game with Birmingham-Southern has turned into a great cross-town rivalry," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "We played in two tough, emotional matches last weekend. With city bragging rights at stake, tomorrow's match should be intense as well. We're all excited to play."
The Blazers (3-5) are coming off a difficult weekend against No. 1 North Carolina and No. 7 Duke. Junior goalkeeper Katie Forbis has received numerous awards for her record setting performance against UNC. Forbis posted an individual school record for most saves in a match with 16 against the top-ranked Tar Heels.
Birmingham-Southern is 4-3-1 after tying LSU last Monday night, 1-1, in Birmingham at the BSC soccer park. This season the Panthers are 0-2 on the road and have never beat the Blazers. UAB holds a 4-0 advantage over BSC and has not allowed the Panthers to score a goal.
UAB will have Sunday off before opening Conference USA action on Sept. 30 against UTEP in Birmingham.
