DURHAM, N.C. --- The UAB women's soccer team took the No. 7 Duke to the wire Friday night in Durham falling, 1-0, on a corner kick in the final three minutes. The Blazers fell to 3-4 on the year, while Duke remained undefeated at 5-0-1.
"I thought we played a very good game," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "Our kids played extremely hard and we matched up well with the No. 7 team in the country. Any time you take the match down to the final three minutes on the road against a team of that caliber you have to be happy. In each of our chances we were dangerous. We had some nice opportunities to get in but it came down to the final touch or pass."
UAB had three shots on goal in the match and applied heavy pressure throughout the evening. Defensively, junior goalkeeper Katie Forbis had 10 saves in 90 minutes of work.
Duke senior Kate Seibert scored the winning goal off the corner kick in the 85th minute. It was her first goal of the season.
"I felt that this was another good match in our tough non-conference schedule," said Harbin. "We look forward to coming out and having another opportunity to play against a good team Sunday.
The Blazers will continue action in the Duke Adidas Classic when they face No. 1 North Carolina Sunday at 1:30 p.m. CT. The match will be played in Durham at Koskinen Stadium.
