UAB's Jill Porto Garners Summer League Award

TAMPA, Fla. - Jill Porto, a sophomore on the UAB women's soccer team, was named to the United Soccer League's (USL) W-League Team of the Week on Friday, it was announced by the league.
Porto, a member of the All-Conference USA freshman team last season for the Blazers, helped her Northern Virginia Majestics squad to a 2-1 win over previously the previously unbeaten Central Florida Krush. The USL Team of the Week is awarded to the top performers in the United States and Canada for the W-League matches held over the previous weekend.
The Majestics and Krush were tied at 1-1 with time winding down in regulation and overtime seemed likely, but Porto received a pass from teammate Ashley Banks and scored the game-winner. The Central Florida Krush was 7-0-0 and ranked No. 1 in the nation prior to the loss against the Majestics.
Porto played in all 23 games last season and started in 14. She finished third on the team with eight goals and added four assists for a total of 20 points.
