BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team turned in its best performance of the season here Friday, winning four of six singles matches and claiming the doubles point, en route to a 5-2 win over visiting Coastal Carolina.
The Blazers (7-3) and Chanticleers (5-4) played to three sets in two matches and two others were settled by just two games in each set. The difference in the match was that UAB was able to win three of those four matches and also came out on top in a tight doubles competition.
UAB's Samrin Tanzeem provided the clinching victory as she claimed a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles over Sofie Ahlberg.
"I thought this was our best match this season," said UAB women's head coach Mert Ertunga. "We were able to win close matches between we were mentally tough today and that allowed us to win the close games and the close sets. I am proud of all the girls today for the way they played."
