UAB Women's Tennis Team Splits Pair Of Matches

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The UAB women's tennis team split a pair of Conference USA matches here Saturday, defeating Saint Louis (5-2) before falling to DePaul (6-1) later in the day.
The Blazers (4-3) won the doubles point and then won singles matches at the No. 3-6 positions en route to the win over the Billikens. Ornischa Maier-Knapp, Samrin Tanzeem, Annemieke Elsholz and Antonio Nugent were all winners in singles at No. 3-6, respectively.
The Billiken wins came at No. 1 and 2 singles where Katerina Lozanova defeated UAB's Gulsah Esen, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 and Amanda Hellberg downed the Blazers' Julia von Samson at the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-5.
In the match against DePaul, the Blazers were only able to claim one singles victory, a win at the No. 4 position as Tanzeem defeated Petra Ruhusova, 7-6, 6-4, and at the No. 3 doubles spot as Elsholz teamed with Jana Wild for an 8-5 win over the DePaul duo of Brenda Leung and Bojana Murisic.
UAB will play host Memphis Sunday when the Blazers go against the host Tigers in a 9:30 a.m. match.
