BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team defeated the University of Nebraska 92-39 in a dual meet held at Bell Aquatics Center. The Blazers swept all four events and took the top two spots in the duet, trio and team events.
The UAB team of Amanda Haeuser, Stacey Jackson, Stephanie Jackson, Megan Kelly, Stacy Leiker, Kara Morgan, Sara Petrov and Hallie Todd took the top spot in the team event, scoring a 91.833. The Blazer squad of Anne Christensen, Andrea Dash, Vanessa Dash, Rebecca Johnson and Karen Meyer placed second with a score of 91.083.
Stacey Jackson, Stephanie Jackson and Leiker placed first in the trio event, scoring an 87.333 and Todd, Morgan and Haeuser took second with a score of 85.000.
Haeuser and Petrov notched the top spot in the duet event with a score of 89.500 and Stacey Jackson and Stephanie Jackson placed second, scoring an 87.666.
Kelly took first in the solo event with a score of 87.334.
"We had some solid swims today, but we have a lot of work to do before the Collegiate Championships," said UAB head coach Lisa Riddell. "I think we can pull out some good swims for the championships. Our team was probably a little tired today because they have been training extremely hard for the championships."
UAB will next compete for a national title at the U.S. Collegiate Championships March 25-27 in Ann, Arbor Mich. More than 250 of the world's top athletes from 29 colleges and universities will vie for titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events. The championships are an open-class meet, combining competition for NCAA Divisions I, II and III, plus NAIA schools. The event will be held at the Donald B. Canham Natatorium on the University of Michigan campus.
