UAB Women's Tennis Beats Jacksonville State, 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's tennis tallied its second-consecutive win, as it defeated in-state foe Jacksonville State, 6-1, here Wednesday afternoon.
"I'm very pleased with today's win," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga, "We had some close matches and we were able to win them. I think that's something we can build on for the rest of the season."
The Blazers (4-8, 1-2) started the match by winning the doubles point, as they took all three matches. At the No. 1 spot, UAB's Femke de Boer and Marrit Jansma defeated the Lady Gamecocks' Robin Gorman and Michelle Dushner, 8-2. At the No. 2 position, the Blazers' Annemieke Elsholz and Julia von Samson were 8-4 winners over JSU's Layla Abby and Zeynep Gurkaynak. UAB's duo of Samrin Tanzeem and Nadia Dellarciprete took the No. 3 match, defeating Jacksonville State's Whitney Collins and Erin Higgs, 8-2.
UAB kept the winning going, as it won five of six singles matches. UAB's de Boer defeated the Lady Gamecocks' Gurkaynak, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 tilt, the Blazers' Elsholz downed JSU's Gorman in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. At the No. 4 position, UAB's von Samson was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Jacksonville State's Abby. Dellarciprete of UAB was victorious at the No. 5 position over the Lady Gamecocks' Higgs, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. The Blazers' final win came in the No. 6 match, as Tanzeem beat JSU's Collins, 6-0, 6-2.
Jacksonville State tallied its only win at the No. 3 spot, as the Lady Gamecocks' Dushner defeated UAB's Jansma, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
UAB travel to Providence, R.I., to face Brown on Sunday at 2 p.m.
