UAB Women's Tennis Defeated By Auburn, 7-0

AUBURN, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team fell to in-state foe Auburn, 7-0, here on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers tallied a win at the No. 2 doubles spot, but lost the other matches.
"The final score was 7-0 but I felt we played very well in some positions, " said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "Auburn is a very skillful team and in the end that was the difference."
The Blazers' (2-7) tandem of Annemieke Elsholz and Julia von Samson were 9-7 winners over Auburn's Liz Sauerborn and Sarah Suitor in the No. 2 doubles match.
Auburn (4-2) took the doubles point by winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. In the No. 1 position, the Tigers' Petra Bercik and Carolina Ramirez defeated UAB's Femke de Boer and Marrit Jansma, 8-1. In the No. 2 match, Auburn's Ashley Cowart and Isabel Rosenbrock beat the Blazers' Nadia Dellarciprete and Samrin Tanzeem, 8-2.
Things didn't go much better for UAB in singles play as the Blazers lost three matches and retired the remaining three. In the No. 1 tilt, Auburn's Bercik defeated the Blazers' de Boer, 6-0, 6-4. UAB's Jansma lost in the No. 3 position, 6-2, 6-0, to the Tigers' Rosenbrock. Suitor of Auburn beat the Blazers' Dellarciprete, 6-1, 6-4, in the No. 5 match.
The Blazers retired their No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 matches, giving Auburn the 7-0 win.
Next, UAB hosts Winthrop on Sunday, Feb. 29, at 10 a.m. at Brook Highland Racquet Club.
