UAB Continues Road Stretch At Southern Miss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's basketball team will continue its road trip when the Blazers play Southern Miss on Wednesday, at 7 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on CSS with Matt Coulter and Sonny Smith calling the action.
Wednesday's game between the Blazers (13-6, 6-2) and Golden Eagles (11-8, 4-4) will mark the 21st meeting in series history; however, it will be the lone meeting between the two teams in the regular season after meeting twice a year for eight consecutive seasons. The last meeting between the two schools went into double overtime (2/4/03), with USM taking an 82-80 win over the Blazers. In fact, the Blazers have lost three of their last four games at Reed Green Coliseum.
Most recently, UAB had its four-game conference win streak snapped with a 73-55 loss at Louisville. The Blazers are led by senior guard Mo Finley who averages 12.3 ppg. Gabe Kennedy (11.9 ppg) and Ronell Taylor (10.2 ppg) also average double figures. Kennedy leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game, Carldell "Squeaky" Johnson averages a team-best 3.7 assists per contest.
Southern Miss is coming off three consecutive road games; however, USM won two of the three including a triple overtime win at Houston (75-72). The Golden Eagles are led by senior Charles Gaines who leads the team in points (15.5) and rebounds (10.6). Sophomore Jasper Johnson is also averaging double digits with 13.1 ppg. Dante Stiggers leads the team with 4.8 assists per contest.
