BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The tip-off time for UAB's men's basketball season-opener with Virginia Commonwealth has been pushed back to 8 p.m. (CT) from its original time of 7:30 p.m. (CT). The announcement was made today by UAB men's basketball coach Mike Anderson.
The adjustment was made to accommodate UAB fans attending Saturday afternoon's football game at Southern Miss, which kicks off at 2 p.m. (CT), wishing to attend the Blazers' opener against VCU in Bartow Arena.
UAB is coming off a 22-10 campaign in which the Blazers won a share of the 2004 Conference USA regular season title, made the school's 11th NCAA tournament appearance and third appearance in the Sweet 16. VCU (1-1) is also coming off a 2004 NCAA Tournament appearance. The Rams, who lost to Wake Forest in last season's opening round, are coached by former Duke standout Jeff Capel.
