UAB Women's Tennis Defeated At Louisville, 5-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The UAB women's tennis team fell to Conference USA foe Louisville, 5-1, here on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers took the doubles point, but were unable to win any singles matches.
"We were overmatched today," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "We managed to win the doubles point, but overall, Louisville is a better team than we are right now."
Blazers Femke de Boer and Annemeike Elsholz teamed up in No. 1 doubles to defeat Louisville's Michele Spiess and Leslie Stewart, 8-5. At the No. 2 doubles spot, UAB's Nadia Dellarciprete and Marrit Jansma beat Cardinals Kelly Taylor and Natalie Laszkowski, 9-8. UAB's lone doubles defeat came in the No. 3 tilt, as Blazers Julia Hoch and Samrin Tanzeem fell to Christina Gogol and Paige Eber of Louisville, 8-3.
The Cardinals took control of the match in singles, winning all five completed matches. At No. 1 singles, UAB's de Boer lost to Louisville's Stewart, 7-6, 6-3. UL's Spiess defeated UAB's Elsholz, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 2 singles spot.
At the No. 4 spot, Blazer Hoch fell to Taylor of Louisville, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. UAB's Dellarciprete lost to Cardinal Julia Hierl, 6-3, 6-0; while Louisville's Eber was victorious over Tanzeem of UAB in the No. 6 tilt.
Next, UAB travels to Houston, Texas to face the Cougars on Feb. 7 before battling Texas-Arlington on Feb. 8.
