UAB Women's Tennis Team Loses To Texas-Arlington, 6-1

HOUSTON, Texas ----- The UAB women's tennis team lost its third-straight match of the 2004 season, falling to Texas-Arlington, 6-1, here on Saturday afternoon.
"They were the strongest team we've faced this season," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "We were over-matched from the beginning. Hopefully, we can come back and play well against Houston on Sunday."
UTA (1-1) took the doubles point by winning all three matches. In the No. 1 match, Lady Mavericks Marketa Cizova and Daniela Novakova defeated UAB's Annemieke Elsholz and Samrin Tanzeen, 8-5. Blazers Femke de Boer and Julia von Samson lost in the No. 2 slot to UTA's Monika Peciulionyte and Simri van Rooyen, 8-1. Finally, in the No. 3 tilt, Anete Rozkaine and Jitka Vetrovcova of UTA beat UAB's Nadia Dellarciprete and Marrit Jansma, 8-5.
UAB (0-3, 0-1) registered its' lone point in the No. 6 singles match, as Blazer Tanzeen was victorious over Texas-Arlington's Gretel Hach, 6-3, 6-1.
The Lady Mavericks took the dual match by winning the other five singles matches. In the No. 1 spot, UTA's Peciulionyte, who is ranked 46th in the nation, tallied the 6-0, 6-3, win over Blazer de Boer. Lady Maverick Cizova defeated Elsholz of UAB, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 tilt, Rozkaine of UTA registered a 6-1, 6-4, win against Blazer Jansma, 6-1, 6-4.
At the No. 4 position, Lady Maverick Novakova beat UAB's von Samson, 6-3, 6-1. UTA also took the point at the No. 5 slot, as Vetrovcova defeated UAB's Dellarciprete, 7-5, 6-3.
The Blazers look to snap their three-match losing streak on Sunday, as they face conference-foe Houston at 11 a.m. in Houston, Texas.
