HOUSTON, Texas ----- The UAB women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Houston here Sunday afternoon. The loss was the Lady Blazers' fourth consecutive to start the season, dropping to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in Conference USA.
"I felt we did the best we could," said women's tennis coach Mert Ertunga. "What was pleasing is that even though we began the match with a deficit, our girls played very hard and never gave up."
The lone win for the Lady Blazers came at the No. 4 singles match. Freshman Julia von Samson defeated Houston's Karine Urbin, 6-2, 6-2.
UAB started in a hole, losing all three doubles matches to begin the match down 1-0. At No. 1 doubles, Femke de Boer and Annemieke Elsholz fell, 8-4, to Houston's Biljana Dimovski and Miranda Foley. The Cougars made it a sweep at No. 3 doubles with Yolandi Terblanche and Kami Miller beat UAB's Samrin Tanzeem and von Samson, 8-3.
The Lady Blazers dropped the top three singles matches to seal the Cougar victory. At No. 6 singles, UAB's Tanzeem was leading Diana Martin, 7-5, 2-4; however, the match was defaulted due to the outcome having already been decided.

At No. 3 singles, U of H's Terblanche defeated Jansma, 6-1, 6-1. UAB's Dellarciprete dropped a touch-fought match to Miller, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 5 position.
