Men's Basketball Team Holds End Of Year Banquet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's basketball team officially put an end to its 2002-03 season by holding the men's basketball banquet here Thursday night. The UAB coaching staff announced the team awards as well as showed a highlight tape during the grand finale.
Senior Eric Bush and junior Morris Finley combined to capture eight awards including sharing the team MVP award of the 02-03 campaign. Finley also garnered the Team's Leading Scorer, Best Free-Throw Percentage and the UAB Academic awards. Bush was honored with the Team Assist award, Outstanding Defensive Player award and also received the Carlos Williams award given in the memory of the late Blazer great for outstanding attitude and dedication to the men's basketball program.
Junior Gabe Kennedy received the Blazer award given to the player who took the most charges, while Sidney Ball was awarded the Chairman of the Board award, given to the team's top rebounder. Kennedy and Ball shared the team's Ironman award, which was given to honor outstanding physical and mental toughness.
Other award recipients include freshman Demario Eddins who received the Coaches Choice award, given to the player who displayed the best team attitude. Senior Cedric Davis received the Most Improved Player award, while Lee Cobb received the UAB Sportsmanship award, which is given to the player who displayed the best attitude on the team.
The Blazers closed the 02-03 campaign with an overall record of 21-13, runner-up in the Conference USA tournament and a quarterfinal appearance in the NIT where UAB fell to eventual NIT champion St. John's.
