Women's Soccer Goes 2-1 In Spring Competition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's soccer team fell to Jacksonville State before rebounding to defeat Birmingham Southern and Auburn here on Sunday afternoon as it continued spring competition.
"We started the day off slowly, but improved as the day continued," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "Getting a win against Auburn was good for us and it felt good to end the day on such a positive note."
Jacksonville State scored with four seconds left in the match, defeating the Blazers, 1-0, in UAB's first game of the day.
The Blazers bounced back, beating Birmingham Southern, 3-0. Jessica Barr scored two goals for UAB on assists by Jenny Rynders and Briana McCarty. Tara Kidwell scored another goal for the Blazers off a pass by Jessica Samulski.
UAB finished the day with a 1-0 win over Auburn. With two minutes left in the game, Liz Bosscher put the ball in the net after being assisted by Kidwell and Suzanna LaMotte.
On March 15, the Blazers host a four-team round robin tournament. Vanderbilt, Team Boca (Florida) and the Greenville (S.C.) Futbol Club will also participate in the tournament. Play begins at 9 a.m. on West Campus Field when UAB takes on Team Boca. The Blazers will play again at 11:40 a.m. when they face the Greenville Futbol Club. UAB's final game of the day will be at 2:40 p.m. when it battles Vanderbilt.
