Demario Eddnis Named To Conference USA All-Freshman Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky.---Demario Eddins, who captured the UAB freshman scoring record earlier this season, has been named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team as announced by the league here Tuesday.
Eddins is joined on the team by Charlotte forward Curtis Withers, Louisville guard Taquan Dean and Memphis forward Rodney Carney. Also making the all-freshman team was Marquette's Steve Novak who was named the Sixth Man of the Year, and Louisville's Francisco Garcia who was also named the C-USA Freshman of the Year. The C-USA Defensive player of the Year award was given to Marquette's Dwayne Wade.
Eddins, a Chicago, Ill. native, has scored 271 points this season, smashing the former freshman school record held by Damon Cobb who scored 212 points in 30 games during the 1995-96 campaign. For the season, Eddins is second on the team with 10.0 ppg, while also averaging 4.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.
Eddins joins Morris Finley, who made second team all-conference, as the only other Blazer to be placed on a post season all-conference team.
The Conference USA Coach and Player of the Year awards will be announced on Wednesday
UAB will open play in the 2003 Kelly Tires Conference USA Tournament on Wednesday, March 12, at 7 p.m. EST when it faces Charlotte. The game can be heard on AM 1070 WAPI and will also be televised by ESPN Plus.
