Synchronized Swimming Team Falls To Second-Ranked Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The UAB synchronized swimming team fell to second-ranked Stanford University in a dual meet Saturday on the Cardinal campus. Stanford posted an overall score of 90 to UAB's 75. The Cardinal took first place in the solo, duet and trio events, and also took the top spot in the team routine.
The UAB team of Luna Aguilu, Kelli Dickerson, Amanda Haeuser, Stephanie Jackson, Stacey Jackson, Stacy Leiker, Kara Morgan and Bogdana Zareva took second in the team routine, scoring an 86.000. The Blazer team of Hannah Freer, Kristen Kramer, Megan Kelly, Sarah Pikal and Moraine Ruddick took third with a score of 81.250.
Zareva grabbed a second place finish in the solo event, scoring an 87.333.
The duet event saw Stephanie and Stacey Jackson place third with an 83.167. Freer and Zareva took fourth with an 82.500 and Leiker and Morgan placed fifth with an 80.833.
Stephanie Jackson, Stacey Jackson and Leiker placed third in the trio event, scoring an 84.000. Dickerson, Kelly and Morgan took fourth with a score of 79.333.
"I thought we swam well today," said UAB head coach Lisa Riddell. "Stanford is the No. 2 team in the country and I thought we held our own. I thought the team stepped up and did a good job. I was pleased with our effort."
UAB returns home to Bell Aquatics Center Saturday to host Arizona and Stanford in a tri-meet at 2 p.m.
