Men's Basketball Team To Face TCU In Bartow Arena

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The Conference USA National Division-leading UAB men's basketball team (11-5, 3-2 C-USA) will look to bounce back into the win column when it takes on the TCU Horned Frogs (7-10, 1-4 C-USA) on Wednesday night. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m. at Bartow Arena.
The Horned Frogs enter Wednesday night's contest with an overall record of 7-10 and stand 1-4 in conference play. Most recently, the Horned Frogs stepped outside of conference play to take on No. 9/10 Creighton on Sunday. TCU jumped out to a 12-point lead at the half; however, was outscored 53-31 in the second half and fell 89-79. TCU boasts of four players who average double-figures in scoring. Junior Blount leads the team with 18.2 ppg. Corey Santee averages 16.3 ppg, while Bingo Merriex and Chudi Chinweze average 11.6 and 10.8 ppg, respectively. Jamal Brown leads the team in rebounds, averaging 9.1 per contest.
UAB is coming off a disappointing 75-72 loss at Tulane on Saturday. Junior Gabe Kennedy led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, while Mo Finley added 15. The Blazers had two chances to tie the game in the final seconds; however, both three-point attempts did not find their mark. UAB is led by Finley who is averaging 17.9 ppg - fifth-best in C-USA. Demario Eddins (9.5) and Jeff Collins (9.2) follow Finley in the scoring column.
Wednesday's game marks just the fifth time in the series' history the Horned Frogs and Blazers have met on the basketball court, with the series tied 2-2. Last season, each team won on the other team's home floor. The Blazers took a 77-71 decision in Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 29, 2002, while TCU returned the favor, taking a 78-68 decision in Bartow Arena on Feb. 12, 2002.
The game can be heard live on 1070 WAPI-AM, with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m. Gary Sanders will handle play-by-play, Matt Coulter will be the color analyst and Jon Gentile will produce the broadcast.
