Lisa Nowoslawki Named Tournament MVP

HONOLULU ----- Senior goalkeeper Lisa Nowoslawski was named MVP of the OHANA Hotels & Resort No Ka Oi Tournament as she led the UAB women's soccer team to the tournament championship in the Blazers' opening action of the 2002 season.
Nowoslawski, from Melbourne, Fla., had 16 saves in 200 minutes for the Blazers during the weekend. She finished the tournament with a 0.45 GAA and a save percentage of .941.
In addition, freshman Tara Kidwell, sophomores Briana McCarty and Jenny Rynders, and junior Jill Knottek were all named to the All-Tournament team.
Against Wyoming, Kidwell had a goal and an assist for the Blazers. McCarty had an assist versus Hawaii as well as providing strong defense for UAB. Rynders scored the Blazers only goal against Hawaii and then added another versus Wyoming. She now leads the team in goals scored (2) and points (4). Knottek racked up a goal and an assist on four shots, her goal coming against the Cowgirls.
UAB will play its home opener Thursday night (7:00) when Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt visits.
