BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Jenny Rynders and Suzanna LaMotte were rewarded for their impressive play this week at the UAB Nike Classic. Rynders, who was named tournament MVP, was named the Conference USA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. LaMotte, who was also named to the All-tournament team, was named the C-USA Women's Soccer co-Defensive Player of the Week.
"I'm really proud of the effort that Jenny and Suzanna made this weekend," said head coach Paul Harbin. "They were both vital to our success. It's an honor for them and the program to be rewarded by the Conference."
Rynders scored a goal and provided an assist on the game-winning goal in the Blazers' 3-2 double-overtime win over Georgia on Friday. On Sunday, Rynders scored against UMass to help UAB to a 5-1 victory and the Nike Classic crown.
LaMotte held Georgia's top scoring threat, Geneil Newbern, in check, allowing her just two shots on goal. In Sunday's contest against Massachusetts, LaMotte held the duo of Erin Lilly and Lindsey Bellini to two combined shots on goal and was part of a Blazer defense that allowed only four shots on goal in the UAB victory.
UAB next travels to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama on Friday, September 20, at 7 p.m.
