Women's Soccer Falls To Cincinnati 2-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Cincinnati in Conference USA play this evening at West Campus Field. With the setback, the Blazers slip to 2-5-0 overall (1-2-0 C-USA), while the Bearcats improve to 6-2-0 (3-0-0 C-USA).
In the second minute of play, Cincinnati's Ann Thomas scored her fourth goal of the season to open the match with a header off a cornerkick from midfielder Tasha Wagner.
UAB fought back to a 1-1 tie when senior defender Bridget Winston (Dallas, Texas) knocked in a header off freshman midfielder Briana McCarty's (Lawrenceville, Ga.) corner kick at the 40:52 mark. The tie would remain through half-time.
At the 58:08 mark, Ann Thomas scored her second goal of the night and game winner for the Bearcats as she struck from 12 feet out on the right side of the net. Amy Simonson garnered the assist.
UAB goalkeeper Lisa Nowoslawski (Melbourne, Fla.) had six saves on the night as the Bearcats doubled the Blazers in shots 16-8.
The Blazers are back in action Sunday as they host 17-time national champion and top-ranked North Carolina in a 2 p.m. match at West Campus Field.
