Women's Soccer Shuts Out DePaul 4-0

CHICAGO, Ill. - Playing in a steady rain throughout the match, the UAB women's soccer team were able to withstand the elements and post a 4-0 win over the DePaul Blue Demons in a Sunday morning match.
Junior Adrienne Sufferidge (Columbia, S.C.) opened the scoring in the 11th minute, scoring her second goal of the season. Junior Cindy Penaranda (Huntsville, Ala.) had the assist. The 1-0 lead for the Blazers would stand throughout the first half and into the intermission.
In the second half, the Blazers struck three more times. At 49:25, senior Denise Peters (Jacksonville, Ala.) scored to give UAB the 2-0 advantage. At 77:38, sophomore Jennifer Calalang (Orlando, Fla.) scored her first goal of the season giving the Blazers a comfortable 3-0 lead. Freshman Jenny Rynders (Marietta, Ga.) captured her first collegiate goal as she headed in the fourth Blazer goal at 80:45 off a corner kick from freshman Amy Disko (Birmingham, Ala.).
The Blazers dominated most of the match outshooting the Blue Demons 17-5. Goaltender Lisa Nowoslawski (Melbourne, Fla.) had three saves in the match.
The victory puts the Blazers at 2-4 on the season and 1-1 in Conference USA. The Blazers will be back in action this Fri. Sept. 28 at West Campus Field as they host Cincinnati at 7 p.m.
