Peters Named To C-USA Women's Soccer Preseason Squad

UAB senior forward Denise Peters (Jacksonville, Ala.) earned selection to the preseason Conference USA women's soccer team that was released today by the league office in Chicago. The selection of the team, along with the C-USA preseason poll, was made by league's coaches.
Peters led the Blazers in scoring last season with a total of nine points that included four goals and an assist. She garnered both C-USA Offensive Player of the Week and Soccer America Team of the Week honors after scoring a pair of goals against Memphis (Oct. 7) in UAB's only match of the week. In her three-year Blazer career, Peters has notched 15 goals and three assists.
As for the preseason poll, the Blazers got tabbed 10th in the newly expanded C-USA as East Carolina and TCU join the league this season. Marquette was picked to repeat as this year's champion, followed by Saint Louis, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Houston, TCU, East Carolina, South Florida, Tulane, UAB, Memphis, Southern Miss, DePaul and Louisville. The top eight finishers will make the C-USA Tournament that will be played Nov. 7-10 in Milwaukee.
The Blazer soccer team is expected to report to campus next Monday and begin fall practice later in the week before playing their lone exhibition contest Aug. 24 at Alabama in a 7 p.m. contest. The regular-season slate opens Aug. 31 against Creighton in Omaha, Neb.
