Louisville Defeats UAB Softball 4-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville (36-17, 11-4 Conference USA) defeated UAB (22-29, 6-9 C-USA) 4-2 in Conference USA softball action at Ulmer Stadium.
Louisville got two runs in the top of the first. The first run came of a double to left center field by third baseman Melissa Jacobo that allowed center fielder Coleen Coughlin to score. The next run came on a double to right center by second baseman Nicole Sparks, who doubled to right center, scoring Jacobo.
The Cardinals added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Designated player Kenzie Meisenburg reached first on a throwing error by shortstop Beth Mullins. Right fielder Keola Calderon followed with a double to center field, scoring Meisenburg. Calderon was then able to reach third on a throwing error by catcher Amanda Ellis, who was attempting to pickoff Calderon at second base. Jacobo then followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Calderon.
The Blazers answered in the top of the seventh. Carrie Parker, pinch hitting for shortstop Amber Rouse, singled in Emily Scarbrough, who was pinch running for pitcher Kelli Thompson. The Blazers other run in the inning came when third baseman Candice Hithe reached on a fielder's choice and Wyatt, who was pinch running for first baseman Jessica Smith, scored on an error by catcher Lisa McMillan.
Tara McClure (17-5) had a complete game victory for Louisville. McClure went seven innings, gave up two runs on three hits, walked four and struck out three.
Kerri Foster (11-12) pitched five and two-thirds innings for UAB and got the loss. Foster allowed four runs on seven hits, walked none and struck out three. Thompson worked a third of an inning in relief and allowed no runs on no hits and walked none.
Louisville's victory completed the sweep of the Blazers in the three-game series. The Cardinals won both games of a doubleheader Saturday, winning the first game 3-1 and taking the second contest 7-6.
UAB next travels to Jacksonville State Thursday to take on the Gamecocks in a doubleheader, starting at 4 p.m.
