BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB basketball coach Murry Bartow announced today the signing of point guard Eric Bush (Anderson, Ind.) to a national letter of intent for the 2001-02 season.
Bush, a 5-foot-10 point guard from Barton County Community College in Kansas, tallied 18.2 points, 6.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game this past season. Bush was tabbed a first-team preseason junior college All-American and was rated the No. 1 junior college sophomore point guard by Rick Ball in The Sporting News prior to the 2000-01 campaign.
In his two seasons at BCCC, Bush helped his team to a 61-11 record, including a 29-9 mark his sophomore campaign. As a freshman, Bush tallied 14.1 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds, 6.0 steals and 9.1 assists to earn National Junior College Athletic Association second-team All-America honors and Most Valuable Player of Jayhawk League West Division.
As a prep star, Bush attended Anderson High School where he started three seasons and earned all-state honors. As a senior he led his school to a 22-2 mark, averaging 16 points, five assists and three steals a game.
"Eric is a very quick guard with an ability to score and a great on the ball defender," Bartow said. "He has proven himself as a winner on every level he has been at and we look forward to him coming in and helping us compete in Conference USA."
Bush is the third signee for the Blazers in the last two days, joining Cedric Davis (Dayton, Ohio) and Antonae Robinson (San Jose, Calif.) who inked with UAB Wednesday. Bartow was still in the process of signing one additional player for next season.
