UAB Synchro Finishes Fourth At U.S. Collegiate Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The UAB Synchronized Swimming team finished fourth overall and placed in the top eight in the team, solo, duet and trio competitions as the U.S. Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Championships concluded Saturday the Midtown Aquatic Center.
It was the second straight fourth place finish for the UAB team, which is only in its second year of intercollegiate competition.
Ohio State claimed its 21st national team title with a score of 99, followed by Stanford(88), Canisius (66), and UAB(62).
UAB placed fifth in the team routine competition with a score of 91.667. UAB swimmers in the team routine included Luna Aguilu, Kelli Dickerson, Stacy Leiker, Rossitza Loukanova, Bogdana Zareva, and Moraine Ruddick
Two UAB duet teams placed in the duet competition. Brown and Zareva finished fifth overall with a score of 91.733, while Dickerson and Leiker finished sixth with a score of 88.267.
UAB also placed two teams in the trio competition. Dickerson, Leiker and Kara Morgan finished sixth overall with a score of 87.533, followed closely by Aguilu, Loukanova, and Ruddick in seventh place with a score of 87.333.
"We're really, really excited to have finished fourth in the nation again," said UAB Head Coach Amy O'Donnell
"To be able to come back and hold fourth place with all the new teams that were here this year, against some really tough competition, is really an achievement for our team."
