BIRMINGHAM, Ala.... The UAB softball team (6-10, 0-0 Conference USA) split a doubleheader with Oakland University (2-2, 0-0 Mid-Continent Conference), winning the first game 5-1 and losing the second contest 4-1.

In the first game, Beth Mullins, Jessica Smith and Kelli Thompson all delivered RBI singles for the Blazers. Kerri Foster (3-4) had the complete game victory for UAB, recording five strikeouts. Jaymie Voss (1-1) picked up the loss for the Golden Grizzlies.

In game two, Candice Hithe scored on a wild pitch to account for the Blazers only run. Kelli Thompson (2-4) went the distance for the Blazers and picked up the loss. Julie Anderson (1-1) came on to pitch in the fourth, went four innings and got the win for the Golden Grizzlies.

UAB next travels to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the Frost Cutlery tournament Friday-Sunday.
