CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -
UAB's Kerri Foster (4-4) pitched a complete game, striking out four batters as the Blazers (7-10) defeated Jacksonville State (7-4) 3-1 in round one of the Frost Cutlery Tournament, hosted by Chattanooga.
UAB scored a pair of runs in the first inning, one on an error by the Gamecock second baseman and one on an RBI single by designated player Kelli Thompson.
The Blazers added an insurance run in the fifth inning as Jessica Brown tripled and later scored on another JSU error.
Tara Ross (2-1) was the losing pitcher for Jacksonville State.
UAB was scheduled to take on host Chattanooga at 4:00 pm EST.
