Blazers Advance To Championship At Bulldog Classic

ATHENS, Ga.-- With two outs in the top of the eighth, two runners on base and the score tied 2-2, Jessica Smith singled in Amanda Ellis and Lucy Bass followed with a single that scored Cliffanie Engram to give UAB (3-6, 0-0 in Conference USA) a 4-2 victory over Marshall (2-3) and put the team in the championship game at the Georgia Bulldog Classic.
Marshall struck first in the first inning when Kelli Hall doubled to center field, driving in Nichole Corrigan and Vanessa Clarkson to put Marshall up 2-0.
The Blazers answered in sixth as Cliffanie Engram scored on a wild pitch by Sierra Davenport and Emily Scarbrough reached home on a passed ball by Karri Britt.
Kelli Thompson (1-2) had a complete game for the Blazers, recording four strikeouts. Davenport picked up the loss for Marshall, pitching 6.2 innings.
UAB will play the winner of the Georgia-Charleston Southern match-up at 4:30 (ET).
