Blazers Fall To Lipscomb At Bulldog Classic

ATHENS, Ga. - The UAB softball team (2-5, 0-0 in Conference USA) fell to Lipscomb (1-2) 5-3 in the second day of play at the Georgia Bulldog Classic.
Lipscomb opened up the scoring in the top of the second. Ashley Denton walked to open the inning, Jamie Gleaves doubled and Leslie Ellis then singled in Denton. With two outs, Kristen Peek doubled in Gleaves and Ellis to put Lipscomb up 4-0.
The Blazers answered in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs. With two outs, Amanda Ellis singled, reaching second on an error. Jessica Brown walked and Candice Hithe was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Cliffanie Engram then doubled, driving in Ellis, Brown and Hithe.
Lipscomb added one insurance run in the fourth as Kelli Dobbins singled in Hillary Gipson.
Ellis threw a complete game for Lipscomb, allowing five hits. Megan Stephenson (0-2) went 2.2 innings for the Blazers and picked up the loss. Kelli Thompson came on in relief, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and one run.
The Blazers face Georgia (8-6) at 7 p.m. (ET).
