Women's Soccer Hits The Road To Take On Southern Miss And Tulane

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB women's soccer team is on the road this weekend in Conference USA play. The Blazers will travel to Southern Miss on Friday for a 4 p.m. match and Tulane on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match.
The Blazers are on a four-game winning streak knocking out Houston 3-1 and TCU 2-1 in double overtime last weekend. With the wins, UAB pulled to 4-2 in C-USA and jumped to sixth in the standings.
At defense, the Blazers have stood strong this season holding opponents to 13 goals in 12 games. Junior goalkeeper Lisa Nowoslawski (Melbourne, Fla.) has played outstanding in the last four games earning two shutouts. She is third in C-USA in average saves per game with 6.27 and fourth in saves with 69. Senior Bridget Winston (Dallas, Texas) has four goals for the Blazers, while freshman Briana McCarty (Lawrenceville, Ga.) has five assists.
At offense, the Blazers have scored 21 goals this season. Four players have four goals including junior Adrienne Suffridge (Columbia, S.C.), freshman Tara Kidwell (Leesburg, Va.), senior Denise Peters (Jacksonville, Ala.) and Winston. Sufferidge leads the Blazers with 13 points and is third in C-USA in game-winning goals with three.
The Golden Eagles sit in 11th place in C-USA with a 7-4-0 overall record with all four losses coming in C-USA matches. Southern Miss is on a two-game winning streak defeating Memphis 2-1 for its first conference win of the season. They have scored 21 goals this season and only allowed 11 as goalkeeper Leslie Schoeplein has a .804 save percentage this season. Tricia Wiles leads the Golden Eagles with eight goals and 18 points.
Tulane is 5-6-0 overall and 3-2-0 in C-USA play. In Tulane's last game, the Green Wave defeated Memphis 1-0 after Memphis knocked the ball in its own net. Tulane is in fifth spot in the C-USA standings, one spot ahead of the Blazers. Goalkeeper Sara Simpson recorded her fourth shutout of the season with the match, tying her for second in Tulane's single-season shutouts. Lindsay Morris leads the Green Wave with 17 points.
