Hunter Veach is in his first season as assistant coach for the Blazers. He joined coach Joe Guthrie's staff in Oct. 2020.
Veach is also part of the Chinese women's national softball team staff. He has traveled abroad to various countries with team China, competing in tournaments in Australia, Indonesia and China while winning bronze, silver, and gold medals during international competition.
Prior to UAB, Veach was the head coach for the National Professional Fastpitch (NPF) team Beijing Shougang Eagles from 2018-20 and was also an assistant coach for the NPF team the Cleveland Comets from 2017-18.
Veach was an assistant coach at Auburn University during the 2016 season when the Tigers finished runner-up in the Women’s College World Series. As the pitching coach, he also helped lead Auburn’s program to a Super-Regional finish in 2017.
He joined the staff after spending three years as a volunteer assistant coach at Auburn-Montgomery. He was instrumental in the Warhawks' success helping lead the program to two NAIA National Championships in 2014 and 2015. Both times AUM won the national championship, the coaching staff earned accolades as the NAIA Softball National Coaching Staff of the Year.
While in Montgomery, Veach helped coach four NAIA All-Americans and tutored Cassie Jones who was named the 2015 NAIA Player of the Year. Auburn-Montgomery team went 45-12, 44-7 and 46-8 advancing to the NAIA Softball World Series all three seasons (2013-15) Veach spent at AUM.
A native of Selma, Alabama, Veach graduated from Auburn in 2017 wih a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in sports coach and sports communication.
His sister, Kendall, was a decorated college athlete at Auburn. Veach drafted her in the 2019 NPF draft and she played professional softball under his leadership for the Beijing Shougang Eagles.
