Justus Griffin, who has been a part of the UAB men’s soccer program since head coach Mike Getman’s inaugural season in 1992, begins in 23rd season as a member of the staff.
Griffin is involved with the on-field coaching and general administration of the program. He also is involved with recruiting, scheduling and coordinating travel.
Griffin was a three-year letterwinner for the Blazers from 1992-94 as a defender. He helped lead the Blazers to the program’s first conference championship and NCAA Tournament in 1994.
He finished his UAB playing career having started 59-of-60 matches. He scored one goal, tallied one assist and was selected to the Great Midwest All-Newcommer team in 1992.
After his career for UAB ended, Griffin signed a contract to play with the Chattanooga Express of the EISL in 1994. He played one season with the Express before returning to UAB as an assistant coach prior to the 1995 season.
Prior to coming to Birmingham, Griffin played one season, 1991, at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss., where he was selected as the team’s best defensive player.
Griffin received his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) “B” license and is a member of the Alabama ODP staff. He currently resides in Birmingham.
