A native of North Charleston, S.C., Austin Cody enters his inaugural season as the assistant men’s golf coach after spending the previous three years as the assistant golf professional at Legend Oaks Golf Club in Summerville, S.C. He also was the head coach of the junior interclub team at Legend Oaks.
Cody is a 2014 graduate of Duke University where he was a four year letterwinner on the men’s golf team (2010-2014). He quickly made his mark with the Blue Devils as a freshman, posting a 5-1-1 record in match play in the Callaway Collegiate, reaching the semifinals of the NCAA Championship in the process. He followed up his opening campaign with two wins on the Amateur circuit in the Summer of 2011.
In 115 total rounds, Cody notched 22 under-par showings and picked up 14 career top-20 finishes. His best individual performance came in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate when he finished in second place, helping Duke to a first place team finish. Additionally, he was an integral member of the 2013 Blue Devils team that won the 2013 ACC championship.
Also impressive in the classroom, Cody was a three-time ACC All-Academic team honoree, majoring in sociology and minoring in markets and management studies.
Cody had an illustrious prep and junior career. He was a standout at Pinewood Preparatory, where he was named the region player of the year five consecutive seasons and was a seven-time all-state selection. Additionally, he was selected the Lowcountry Golfer of the Year on four occasions. On the junior circuit, he was a two-time South Carolina Golf Association junior champion and amassed 18 championships over the duration of his junior golf career.
The son of Quince and Billie Cody, he has a younger sister, Blair.
