Men’s Golf Places Second at Everett Buick GMC Classic

BIRMINGHAM – A massive final round from the UAB men's golf team led to a runner up and second place finish at the Everett Buick GMC Classic this week in Little Rock, Ark.
The Blazers shot -8 collectively in the final round to move from 8th to 2nd (out of 16 teams). Erik Olin, Alejandro Fierro and Morgan Slaton all fired a 68 (-4) on Tuesday to help the Blazers shoot up the leaderboard as UAB finished -13 for the tournament.
For a third-consecutive tournament, Erik Olin led the Blazers by tying for 6th place overall at -8. It was his first top 10 finish as a Blazer and his third time finishing inside the top 20 this season. Olin shot 68-72-68 = 208 (-8) overall.
Fierro's final round 68 moved him up 16 spots as he finished in a tie for 22nd place overall at -3 (72-73-68 = 213).
Both Alvaro Huidobro (65-78-76 = 219, +3) and Morgan Slaton (71-80-68 = 219, +3) finished in a tie for 43rd place overall. Huidobro's opening round 65 tied for the 13th lowest score in program history, while Slaton's final round 68 moved him up 28 spots.
Clipper Salmon rounded out UAB's team efforts in a tie for 77th at +15 (75-72-84 = 231).
Playing as an individual, freshman Patrick Delaney carded the best collegiate tournament of his career by finishing in a tie for 11th place overall to mark his first career top 15 finish. Delaney shot under par in every round (71-70-70 = 211, -5).
The Blazers finished the fall schedule with an overall record of 36-34-0. UAB will now be off from competition until championship season, which begins in February.
