Joe Kiel enters his 3rd season on staff at UAB after playing for the Green and Gold from 2021-2022. Kiel assists the coaching staff with day-to-day responsibilities as well as coaching the Blazers' catchers.

During his days as a Blazer, Kiel appeared in 52 games and made 42 starts. As a catcher, Kiel compiled 271 putouts and 45 assists across two seasons. Additionally, he caught a pitching staff who struck out 419 hitters in 2022, which is tied for 2nd most in a season in school history.

Prior to playing at UAB, Kiel started his college career at Lawson State CC, led by former Blazers Blake Lewis and Thomas Lowery. He batted .369 with 41 hits, 10 doubles and 22 RBIs. He also earned a spot on the All-Tournament team in the Alabama State Junior College Tournament.

A native of Florence, Alabama, Kiel played for head coach Steve Garrett at Florence High School. During his senior year, Kiel was named the Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year for the Falcons. He averaged .337 at the plate with 32 hits, 8 doubles and 23 RBIs.
