UAB Completes Sweep of Florida Atlantic with Ninth Straight Win

BOCA RATON, FLA. – UAB Baseball completed the sweep of Florida Atlantic as the Blazers used a big ninth inning to take down the Owls by a score of 10-4. The Green and Gold plated six runs in the inning to seal their ninth straight win

Contrary to the first two games of the series, Florida Atlantic jumped on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. John Martinez brought Ian Collier home on a double to left to open the scoring.

The Owls scored twice more in the bottom half of the third. Four straight hitters reached base by way of singles with the latter coming from Michael Perazza to plate FAU's second run. The next batter, Ian Collier drove in Marshall Lipsey on a sac fly to give Florida Atlantic a 3-0 lead through three.

The Blazer bats were silenced through the first four innings of the game but finally pushed across their first run of the game in the top of the fifth. The inning started on a leadoff triple by Baylor Roberts. Roberts would score on a double by Kevin Hall Jr. to cut the FAU lead to 3-1.

UAB would tie the game at three in the top of the seventh with two more runs. It was Kevin Hall Jr. again scoring Baylor Roberts which would trim the Owls' lead to one. After a flyout and heads up base running by Hall to get him on second base, Landon Beaver dropped a single into center field which brought Hall home to knot the game at three apiece.

Wesley Helms started the UAB eighth inning with a two-out single. The Blazers would then take their first lead of the game on an Austin Pierzynski RBI double which brought Helms all the way from first for a 4-3 Blazer lead.

Once again, a big inning would seal the game for the Green and Gold in their half of the ninth as the Blazers brought all nine guys to the plate. UAB scored six times on four hits and took advantage of three FAU errors in the inning and went into the bottom of the ninth with a 10-3 lead.

FAU would plate a single run in its half of the ninth, but it would not be enough as the Blazers completed the sweep over the Owls, 10-4.

NOTES
- UAB won its ninth straight game which is one game shy of tying the 2014 team's 10-game winning streak.
- The Blazers clinched a sweep on the road against a conference opponent for the first time since 2015.
- Kevin Hall Jr. delivered two RBI base hits good for his 11th multi-hit game of the season.
- Alex Dupuy and Wesley Helms picked up their team-high 12th multi-hit games. Helms led the team with three hits while Dupuy gathered two.
- Freshmen Austin Pierzynski and Baylor Roberts each registered two hits apiece in the win. Roberts recorded his seventh multi-hit game while Pierzynski picked up his fifth.
- The Blazer bullpen was stellar in the final 6.1 innings allowing just one FAU run to score. Isaac Warrick, Justin Hicks, and Brendan Conner each contributed scoreless outings in relief as the trio combined for eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
- The Green and Gold run their record to 3-10 when trailing after six innings.
- UAB scored 10+ runs for the 13th time this season and are 13-0 in those games.

UAB travels to nationally-ranked Mississippi State on Tuesday as the Blazers and Bulldogs square off in a midweek showdown. First pitch from Dudy Noble Field is set for 6 p.m. on SEC Network +.
