UAB Drops Tight Contest at No. 9 Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, MS – UAB Baseball dropped a tight game on Tuesday night as the Blazers (22-11) suffered its first loss in the last 10 games by a score of 5-3. The loss snapped the Blazers' 9-game win streak.
Mississippi State (26-7) jumped on the board first with two quick runs in its first at bat of the game. Ace Reese hit a 2-run home run for his 10th long ball of the season to give State an early 2-0 lead.
UAB would get a run back in the top of the third. Austin Pierzynski roped his third home run of the year out to left field to cut the MSU lead to 2-1.
The Dawgs got two more runs via a homer in the bottom half of the third. Jacob Parker smashed a 2-run shot for his seventh homer of the year to give MSU its largest lead of the game.
The Blazers would chip away with single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. Brady Waugh doubled home Landon Beaver which cut the deficit to 4-2. In the top of the fifth, Alex Dupuy came up with the bases loaded and scored Wesley Helms on a sac fly to trim the Mississippi State lead to one through five innings of play.
State would get an insurance run in its half of the seventh inning. Gehrig Frei ripped a single to center to bring home Kevin Milewski to add a run back as MSU took a two-run lead to the eighth inning.
The Bulldog bullpen shut out the Blazers over the last four frames and held on to a 5-3 win.
NOTES
- The loss snapped the Blazers' 9-game win streak which was the fourth longest active streak in D1 Baseball and tied for the fifth longest in school history.
- The crowd of 9,239 was the largest crowd UAB has played in front of this season.
- Brady Waugh picked up his 10th multi-hit game of the season and his eighth 2-hit game.
- Austin Pierzynski homered and singled for his sixth multi-hit game.
- Max Price recorded two hits of his own which was good for his third multi-hit game of 2026.
- UAB left 10+ runners on base for the 15th time this season. The Blazers fell to 9-6 in those games.
The Blazers will look to add to their 7-game conference win on Friday as UAB hosts Wichita State for a 3-game series. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
