BIRMINGHAM – Charlotte scored early and scored often on Friday as the 49ers (24-25, 9-13) put up 20 runs in an 18-run victory over UAB (28-21, 12-10) on Friday night. Charlotte outhit the Blazers, 18-5.

Charlotte scored in each of its last four frames beginning in the top of the fourth as five more runs crossed the plate for the 49ers. Alec DeMartino collected his eighth home run of the season to lead off the inning, followed by two more runs scoring on two Blazer errors. The latter two runs of the frame scored on singles by Todd Hudson and Cody Gunderson to inflate the 49er lead to 9-0.
Two more runs would score in each of the next two innings for Charlotte. Robert Nedry hit a 2-run homer in the fifth inning for his fourth of the year. In the sixth inning, the 49ers scored both runs with two outs. A wild pitch and a single by Adrian Jimenez would put Charlotte up by 13.
UAB finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Kevin Hall Jr. launched his eighth home run of the season and Andrew Hunt singled to cut the deficit to 13-2.
The 49ers batted around for the second time in the game in the seventh inning as seven more runs came around to score.
