Previewing the Weekend at Wake Forest and Florida

BIRMINGHAM – Over the next three days, several athletes from the UAB Track & Field team will be competing against some of the best athletes across the country. The distance runners on the team will head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational on Thursday and Friday. Hannah-Sophie Pippel will be traveling to Gainesville, Florida for the Heptathlon portion of the Tom Jones Invitational on the campus of the University of Florida.
Kelly Hughes kicks off the weekend in the 400m Hurdles and is later joined by Lia Castillo in the 800m race. Castillo will also compete in the 1500m race. Lidia Longo will be competing in the same 1500m race as well as the 3000m Steeplechase. Kenlie Nelson is slated to race in the 5000m.

11:40 to 12:10 - W 1500m: Lia Castillo

2:00 - W 400m Hurdles: Kelly Hughes
In Gainesville, Hannah-Sophie Pippel will compete in seven different events this weekend. On Friday, she will take part in the 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, and 200m. Saturday's events include the Long Jump, Javelin, and 800m.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers had a couple of strong showings in the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa. The day was highlighted by Lia Castillo in the 800m. Castillo placed sixth overall out of 28 runners and finished with a time of 2:10.01. Castillo's 800m time now ranks eighth in school history.
Lidia Longo was the lone Blazer in the 1500m race. Longo ran the race in 4:36.52 which was her personal best.
